Sparta Green Market -Every third Friday, May thru October from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Metcalf Pavilion, 5 West Maple Street (behind the courthouse.) Locally grown foods including organic lamb or beef and seasonal vegetables. Calfkiller Brewing is a regular attraction. Hand-crafted items of all kinds. Local honey. Live entertainment. And it’s all FREE!
Bluegrass under the stars – Every third Friday, May thru October from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Liberty Square Amphitheater at 1 Bockman Way (next to the courthouse.) Where the area has great backyard bands, these are professional bluegrass musicians who travel many miles to perform the best of bluegrass music in the home of Lester Flatt. Admission is FREE! Sponsored by the city of Sparta.
Sonic Sock Hop – The third Saturday in May. Located on the square in downtown Sparta. Listen to great seventies and eighties live rock & roll music. See one of the largest classic car shows of the year. And best of all, the backdrop of the Oldham Theater makes for a great place to street dance. And of course, it’s FREE!
Liberty Square: A Lester Flatt Celebration – 2nd Saturday in October. Seven continuous hours of bluegrass music, 100 vendor and craft booths, a huge classic car show, all in one day. The event is topped off with a fantastic fireworks show. This event is an International Blue Grass Music Award winning event and many of the bands perform internationally; only in Sparta, this event is FREE!
Million Dollar Mile Yard Sale – 1st Saturday in October. More than a mile of Bockman Way in downtown Sparta becomes a string of vendor booths. Vendors from as far as Florida bring their treasures to sell on this day. There is no charge for the vendors or shoppers – – it’s FREE!
